MILFORD Haven Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets are a step closer to building a new classroom, thanks to Haverfordwest Town Council.

The youngsters were presented with a cheque for £100 from Haverfordwest Town Council yesterday (Wednesday).

The cheque was given to commanding officer William Elliott by Mayor of Haverfordwest, Cllr Alan Buckfield, who praised the growth of the organisation.

“I’ve been very impressed with the turnout at Milford Haven Cadets,” he said.

“It’s a marvellous organisation and does marvellous work.”

Mr Elliott thanked the council for its donation, which will go towards the cadets’ fundraising to build a new classroom at their base in Milford Haven.

“We now have 43 cadets and 20 volunteers,” he said. “We’ve outgrown the space we have.

“We’ve provided a better experience and expanded with children coming from across Pembrokeshire.”

The organisation is looking to raise £14,000 for the new classroom which will include furniture costs and an interactive whiteboard.

As part of its fundraising, the group is asking for members of the public to vote for the project through the Aviva Community Fund website.

Projects with the most votes stand to receive much-needed funds to bring their plans to life.

So far, the Cadets have raised around £2,000.
