A TEN-week ‘bake off’ challenge has raised almost £500 to help people hit by natural disasters.

Milford Haven town councillor Clare Williams cooked up the cash by baking weekly recipes from the latest series of the Great British Bake Off.

Clare, an avid fan of the show, posted pictures of her culinary creations online each week, and asking friends and family to donate.

So far she has rustled up jaffa cakes, iced biscuits, churros, roulades, fondant fancies, and more, with her final bake comprising a three-tiered chocolate cake, salmon and asparagus tarts, lemon tarts and sausage rolls.

The foodie fundraiser has so far raised £470 for Christian aid charity Tearfund, which is currently working in Haiti to help locals after the devastation of Hurricane Matthew.

Described as the worst hurricane to hit the area in more than 50 years, it has left a trail of damage across the nation, destroying homes and farms.

Clare, who picked Tearfund because of its connections with the church, said the experience had been fun.

“I’ve always enjoyed baking, but Bake Off has definitely been an inspiration to do it more regularly,” she said.

“My most challenging bake was when I only had two days to make that week’s recipe because we were going on holiday!”

She said her favourite recipe was the hot water crust pie, and she also made a passion fruit meringue that “tasted good” but was not so easy on the eye.
