CHILDREN'S author Tom Palmer paid students at Milford Haven School a visit recently, to talk about the power of sport, and how it can get people reading.
The author, who has written many books about sports, including three sports-themed Puffin books - Football Academy, Foul Play and The Squad - met with year seven and eight pupils.
He told them how he didn't enjoy reading when he was young, but got into books through reading about football.
He also talked about what inspired him to write for children, and about his work with the National Literacy Trust, and working on projects with the Rugby World Cup.
The pupils were then put through their paces with a quiz and everyone who answered a question correctly competed for the rugby goal kick trophy.
The winners were Oliver Yates-Boon, year seven, and Ethan Bateman, year eight.
There was some time at the end for a question and answer session, and the pupils found out lots of interesting information about Tom and his writing.
The pupils thoroughly enjoyed his visit and the following few days saw lots of his books being borrowed from the school library.
