A man caught on camera stealing clothes from a Milford Haven shop, after smashing a window with a beer barrel, has been jailed by magistrates.

Robert Anthony Parker, 33, of Lower Robert Street, Milford Haven, pleaded guilty to burglary, when he appeared via video link from Swansea Prison before Haverfordwest magistrates on Wednesday.

The court heard that Parker was seen on CCTV bashing a beer barrel against the shop window of Trendz until it smashed on November 1.

He then entered the premises with two other people and emerged carrying armfuls of clothing, before walking away from the scene.

Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting, said: “A substantial amount of clothing was stolen, I do not believe it was recovered.

“The lady who runs the shop said it was in excess of £2,000.”

The bench was told that Parker had a string of previous convictions for theft, and had already served time in prison this year.

Jonathan Webb, defending, said: “He was with others on the night in question.  He was drunk and found himself in poor company.

“The suggestion was made by others to carry out this act, and he went along with the gang.”

Mr Webb added that two of the perpetrators were still at large, and Parker had already spent a week in prison on remand.

Magistrates imposed 18 weeks in custody and ordered him to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
