YOUNGSTERS from Milford Haven will have the chance to learn basic bike maintenance skills, thanks to Bluestone resort.

The park has donated a fleet of children's bikes to Milford Youth Matters, to be restored by youth club members.

Milford Youth Matters visited the park recently to receive the bikes, which will be up-cycled as part of the Routes to Opportunity Programme.

Routes to Opportunity is a three-year programme delivered by Milford Youth Matters in partnership with Pembrokeshire County Council Youth Service.

The project is funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund and supports young people aged 16 to 25 through vocational training opportunities.

The 'Spokes' project is one of the four training opportunities available through the programme, and gives young people the chance to learn basic bike maintenance skills.

Part of the sustainability of the project is to take in reclaimed bikes and make repairs to them so that they can be donated back into the community at an affordable price.

While visiting Bluestone, the young people also got to meet the staff at the resort, as well as gain a greater understanding of the possible job opportunities available there.

"Milford Youth Matters would like to thank Bluestone for this opportunity and Mikes Bikes in Haverfordwest for the use of a vehicle to transport the bikes," said Sian Rendell, of Milford Youth Matters.
