South Wales Women’s Hockey League Division 2:
Milford Haven Ladies 6
Gwent 3rds 1

Milford Haven played host to Gwent 3rds on Saturday and continued their good form with a 6-1 win, as in-form striker Rachel Coe recorded another hat-trick.

The home side dominated the first half with an early goal coming from Steph Layton as she got on the end of a Coe cross to score.

Shortly after Coe herself struck twice in quick succession - first from close range and then finishing well after going through through one on one with the Gwent keeper.

The away side did apply some pressure in the closing stages of the half, but the Milford defence, led by keeper Yasmin Riggs, were in solid form.

And the home side went into the break 4-0  up as moments before half time, player of the match Charlotte Davies scored with a skilful finish.

Milford started the second half in much the same vein as the first and a well worked move from an attacking short corner saw Coe complete her treble.

To their credit, Gwent kept battling and looked sharp on the counter attack - and a rare defensive lapse from the home side led to a consolation goal for the visitors.

But fittingly, the home side had the final say as Meg Evans found herself free in the D and placed a low shot home - helping take Milford to the top of the table.

The side are level on points with Carmarthen 1sts, but have a superior goal difference.

“I’m pleased with the performance and our recent form,” said skipper Emma Summons.

“It was another solid display by the whole squad.”

This Saturday, November 19, Milford travel to play Cardiff University ladies 4ths at Talybont.

Milford Squad: Emma Summons (captain), Yasmin Riggs (keeper), Meg Evans, Vicki John, Jane Jordan, Charlotte Davies, Georgia Davies, Kaye Farr, Rachel Coe, Elyse Morgan, Steph Layton, Jess Barrett.
