South Wales Women’s Hockey League Division 2:
Rhondda 2nds 0
Milford Haven Ladies 4

THERE was no hangover from the dramatic defeat of the previous week as Milford Haven travelled to the Rhondda and came away with a comfortable win.

The visitors could not have had a better start as from the pushback, Charlotte Davies threaded a neat ball through to Rachel Coe who finished to give Milford the lead after just 15 seconds.

Emma Summons’ side continued to dominate and created a number of chances that went begging, but late in the half Milford forced a defensive error in the D and from the short corner, it was Summons herself who set up Coe to score.

The home side did enjoy some pressure though and it took another solid performance by keeper Yasmin Riggs, who made some fine saves, to keep it at 0-2 at the break.

In the second half, Milford seemed to take their foot off the gas and gave Rhondda the chance to attack – and the away defence did well to scramble away a number of attacks and prevent the home side getting back into the game.

And midway through the half, Milford picked up the intensity again when the ever alert Elyse Morgan was first to react to a ball from out wide to make it 0-3.

Milford played with confidence in the latter stages and after forcing another short cor-ner - a training ground move worked perfectly as Morgan slotted in her second at the back post.

That completed the win and it was Coe who was adjudged Milford’s player of the match, and afterwards, skipper Summons said she was pleased how her side had bounced back.

“There were lots of positives in the performance - and it was good to pick up the three points away from home after last week’s disappointment.”

This Saturday, Milford are away to Carmarthen.
