A 20MPH speed limit will be trialled in Neyland town centre, following safety concerns over speeding.

Neyland Town Council met with the county council's Head of Highways last week, to discuss a series of issues.

They included drivers speeding in Charles Street and the Promenade, and dodgy parking on junctions and at the yacht club.

Following a speed monitoring exercise, the county council has agreed to introduce a 20mph speed limit trial for Charles Street and the streets which adjoin it, not including Lawrenny Street.

A county council spokesman said the trial is expected to begin in the next few months, and the results will the be examined.

Town mayor Simon Hancock said a speed advisory sign on Honeyborough Road will also be repaired, and car parking on the junction of Riverside Avenue and the front of Neyland Yacht Club will be investigated.

A build-out near the bus shelter at Policeman's Bank will improve pedestrian safety, while not impeding larger vehicles like buses, added Cllr Hancock.

The town council has also asked that mobile speed cameras undertake more frequent checks at the Promenade.

Said Cllr Hancock: "As a town council we are determined to work with police and county council highways to ensure we have a safe town for road users, cyclists and pedestrians.

"We want to see better traffic flow and amenity for road users."
