SEA cadets from Milford Haven were on top form last week, as they lined up for their bi-annual inspection.

Commander Nigel Morton RN assessed uniforms, drill skills, and safety demonstrations, as well as finding out what the cadets enjoy most about being part of the unit.

Commander Morton, who has been a Naval officer for 30 years, is charged with inspecting the south west area’s 80 units.

Every two years, every Sea Cadet unit undergoes a Royal Naval Parade and inspection to ensure they are meeting the required standards.

The inspection includes everything from health and safety, operational arrangements for boating activities, adventurous training and unit activities, to the cadet experience and promotions, training of the staff and cadets, and ceremonial displays.

Local supporters, dignitaries and families were invited to witness the inspection and displays in full swing and a good turn-out of support was shown from the Chairman of the County Council, Mayor of Neyland, Deputy Mayor of Milford Haven, Tesco’s Community Champion, Rotary Club, CEO Port of Milford Haven to name but a few.

Commander Morton also presented a number of promotions, with particular congratulations going to Cadet Lance Corporal Niall Hooper for his promotion and becoming Milford Haven’s first ever Cadet Corporal.

Jago and Kyle were promotes from Ordinary Cadet to Able Cadet, Rhys was named Cadet First Class to Ordinary Cadet, Marine Cadet Second Class to Marine Cadet First Class went to Max, Cadet to Cadet First Class went to Connor, and Rhys and Nicholas went from Junior Cadet to Junior Cadet First Class.

“The great turn-out helps shows the regard that is held for the unit in the community,” said Commanding Officer, and Mayor of Milford Haven, Cllr William Elliott.

“Well done to all the cadets and staff who have put a lot into the last year.”
