MILFORD Haven Business Circle is to disband, following a meeting last week.

On Tuesday (February 28), a narrow majority of members voted to dissolve the group.

Nine people attended the meeting, with seven voting.

Mayor of Milford Haven, Cllr William Elliott, said: “It is with regret that the Milford Haven Business Circle has voted to dissolve, however it saw decreasing membership and clearly without the support of an in-post Chairman faced further issues.

"This does not however, take away the tremendous work that both the previous chairman, Byron Jenkins, and the Business Circle as a whole has done over its time in the town.

"I would like to thank them all for their effort and zeal, and hope they will continue in one of the other groups to help the development of the town."

In January, Mr Jenkins stepped down as chairman - a post he had held since 2015 - due to a 'lack of progress' in town regeneration.

He said: "It is a shame that the circle is to disband, however - as with everything - a lack of support brings a lack of sustainability.

"The circle has a massive potential for the local businesses, but there just isn't anyone able to put the time in."

The business circle was responsible for resurrecting the annual Founders' Day celebration, and also backed the Proud of Milford campaign.

Founders' Day will now be organised by the Town Regeneration team.

A meeting of paid-up members will take place on Thursday, March 23 to finalise all details.
