FAMILIES struggling to eat are being given a helping hand by Milford News/Best One.
The store in Charles Street is now donating all its surplus goods, including cans, bread, cakes and more, to food bank charity PATCH (Pembrokeshire Action to Combat Hardship).
Andy Read, of Milford News, which recently expanded into the Best One store, said: "When I took over this business I realised there was a certain amount of excess food products.
"I immediately thought of PATCH, who do a fantastic job for so many local people who don't have enough to live on."
Tracy Olin, PATCH charity manager, said: "It's wonderful that local businesses like Milford News/Best One are supporting local people in a financial crisis, via PATCH, by donating their surplus food.
"Our clients really appreciate having lots of bread to fill their freezers, as well as the chance of having fresh fruit and vegetables.
"Not only does it mean we can give more, it saves PATCH having to buy quite so many tins and packets to supply client needs.
"Last year we gave food parcels to benefit Pembrokeshire people around 3,500 times - that's 52,500 meals.
"We are extremely grateful to Andy and the team for their support."
