A RED-carpet ball, a car wash, and a bake sale helped youngsters in Milford Haven raise more than £150 for Pembrokeshire Blood Bikes.

Children at Happy Days childcare centre's after school club recently handed over a cheque to the charity, which helps transport precious blood to hospitals.

The service also couriers test samples, documents, X-rays, human breast milk, and other medical supplies to parts of the NHS where they are needed.

Curious about the charity, and how it helps families and babies across the county, little ones at Happy Days decided to raise money to support the service, which is run entirely by volunteers.

Erin Watkins, after school team leader, said the youngsters came up with various fundraising ideas, including baking and selling cakes, washing cars, making and selling crafts, and holding a 'Blood Bike Ball', complete with suits, ball gowns and a red carpet.

Happy Days staff were also on hand, dressed as waiting staff, for the glittering event!

"The children worked very hard, and they were so proud of themselves - and us of them," said Erin, who also thanked staff members Sue and Sophia for the time and effort they put into helping the children organise the events.

"Blood Bikes is a charity that has helped so many people in Pembrokeshire, so we were thrilled to be able to support them," she said.

Children will get another chance to meet the brilliant bikers at the Happy Days open fun day on May 20. From 1pm until 4pm there will be a bouncy castle, and the Fire Service and Guide Dogs will also be in attendance.

All welcome.
