A FOOTBALL tournament to mark what would have been a Milford Haven sportsman’s 29th birthday will take place on Bank Holiday Sunday.

Ashley Findlay died suddenly ten years ago, just a few months before he turned 19.

An avid footballer for both Milford Haven and St Ishmaels, he was also a keen cricketer.

On Sunday, May 28, his family will be holding a football fun day at Marble Hall for those who knew Ashley to mark this poignant anniversary, and celebrate his life.

His mum, Michelle, said: “I have found it hard to mark Ashley’s birthday sometimes, but because it’s 10 years I thought I had to do something.

“Ashley loved his football, so we’re doing what he would have enjoyed the most, being with family and friends, watching sport and having a party.”

She added: “It’s a sad day, but this will be a chance to remember him and what he loved doing.”

The event will kick off at 2pm, with under-16s footballers from Milford and Tish going head to head, before the seniors join in the fun.

Ashley’s brothers Scott, James and Brennan will also be taking part in the tournament, along with dad Stuart.

There will be a presentation ceremony afterwards, followed by a pig roast, live music from the Pennysows and a disco.

For little ones, there will be bouncy castles and facepainting, and the free event is open to anyone who knew Ashley or his family.

“He was a wonderful boy, and everybody speaks so highly of him. We miss him so much,” said Michelle.

“So many people have been getting in touch since they’ve known we’re doing this, and although he was a man of few words I know this is what he would want.”
