A SEVEN-year-old boy has been praised for his “amazing” actions, after he calmly called an ambulance when his mum became ill at home.

Leon Abbott, who is autistic and has Asperger’s, dialled 999 after mum Sian collapsed in pain on Monday evening.

The 25-year-old had been sitting on the sofa with her daughter in her lap, but as she tried to stand up she heard a “ping” in her chest and back.

Pain began spreading though Sian’s chest and side, and she was soon doubled up in agony.

The mother-of-five then began having a panic attack, and says she “zoned out”.

The next thing she remembers is her neighbour in her living room, asking: “Do you want me to speak to them?”

When paramedics arrived, they told Sian that her eldest son Leon had immediately called an ambulance.

“He told them his age, date of birth, and mine, and our address,” said Sian.

“He said he had four sister and that mummy was on her own. Then he said ‘I’ve got to ring nanny now’.”

Meanwhile, his younger sisters had run next door to ask a neighbour for help.

Leon said he kept calm throughout, because he “knew what to do”.

“She was crying because she had hurt her back, so I called nanny and 999. The man on the phone was very nice,” he said.

Sian said she decided to talk to her children about what do in an emergency when she was pregnant with her youngest daughter, now seven months old.

“My husband was working away, and I had a really difficult pregnancy, so we sat them down and said ‘if mummy ever needs you to, ring 999, ask for an ambulance and tell them what is happening,” she said.

“We have a list of three important numbers by the phone too, our mobile phones and the grandparents’, and they know they can ring them if they have to.”

She now wants to other parents to make sure explain to their children what to do in a crisis.

“I’m so proud of what he did,” she said.

“To know that my children can handle a potentially life or death situation.

“If anything ever happened again I know they know what to do, it’s really reassuring.

“When he goes out to play now, I also know he will call for help if he needs it.”
