A POLICEMAN, formerly stationed in Milford Haven, will be one of 12 cyclists tackling a 180-mile bike ride for charity this weekend.

On Friday, June 2, Inspector Dan Bower will cycle from Holyhead to Withybush Hospital, in aid of the Chemotherapy Day Unit Appeal Fund.

Joining him will be wife Jan - a sister at the day unit - and Simon Rossiter, one of her recovering patients.

Together with family and friends - ranging from bike newbies to experienced Iron Men and Women - the group will embark from Holyhead on Saturday morning and make their way over 80 miles across Anglesey and Snowdonia to Dolgellau.

On the second day, they will cover around 50 miles to Aberaeron, before heading back in to Pembrokeshire on Sunday.

The 24-wheeled gang hope to arrive at the hospital at around 3.30pm that afternoon.

"We have come together to challenge ourselves, to support each other and to raise as much money as possible for a charity we all care deeply about," said Inspector Bower, a former Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT)Sergeant in Milford Haven, now based in Tenby.

"Some of us are very new to this, Jan and I only started taking it seriously just before Christmas."

The team, who live in Tenby and near Clarbeston Road, have been overwhelmed by the support received so far and the generosity of the people and businesses in Pembrokeshire.

The team would like to thank Alex at Station Self Drive, Enterprise Cycles of Neyland, Crossways Service Station of Neyland, Fred Rees Skoda dealership, Enterprise Care Hire Milford Haven, W and MJ Rossiter, N D Toy and Partners, Big Brums and Corrie Williams of Olorun Sports.
