THE wheels are in motion to change the name of Pembroke School with the backing of Pembrokeshire County Council’s Cabinet members.

The school, which is due to move to new buildings next year, had asked that a request from the governing body to change the school’s name to Ysgol Harri Tudur/Henry Tudor School be agreed by Cabinet.

Cabinet member for Education Cllr David Lloyd said at Monday’s meeting that the name change marked an “exciting new phase of education in the Pembrokeshire area”.

Pupils will start at the new 21st Century Schools Programme funded school in September 2018 and with the agreement of Cabinet governors hoped to get to work on the new name signage.

The agenda report states: "The governing body of Pembroke School wishes to change the name of the school from that date to emphasise a new identity for the school."

It was agreed by Cabinet members that the “instrument of government: community schools” be approved as the “Governing Body of Ysgol Harri Tudur”.
