THERE was fun for everyone at the recent family day held at Portfield School.

The Friends of Portfield School's third annual fun day featured amazing inflatable activities such as a Velcro run, gladiator podiums, sumo wresting and a rodeo enjoyed by hundreds on the day.

Silent world reptiles were a big attraction with expert handlers, the children were allowed to both hold and learnt about the animals and Castle photography were able to catch the moment in stunning quality.

All the fun helped raise a gigantic £2,600 towards a new wheelchair swing for the upper school playground which will cost £11,000.

The Police, Fire Service, St Johns Ambulance and Blood Bikes were there all day allowing visitors to learn all about their equipment and what they do on a day to day basis. Before the day was out there was a fantastic dance show from FF dancers which left the audience very impressed.

Alison Folder, Chairperson of FOPs said: "The day was an improvement from last year with the weather helping us out. I especially liked the Rodeo, even if I didn't stay on long! I didn't manage to visit all the stalls this year but I'd like to thank everyone for turning up and donating money to such a good cause.

“The wheelchair swing will be a first for upper school, along with all the physical benefits it allows children to join in, having more fun at playtime.”

The Summer Raffle was also drawn on the day, with the top prize of £100 being won by Mrs Sadler.

The swing will help pupils to develop their balance, coordination, gripping and spatial awareness, while enjoying the same activities as the other children, so no one is left out.

Portfield School is the only special educational needs school in Pembrokeshire, with more than 150 students, ranging from three to 19.

FOPs would like to say big thank you to everyone who turned out to enjoy themselves, and to all the volunteers and staff who gave up their time to help the day run smoothly. FOPS would also like to thank Tesco for sending out Hannah to help with the tea and cakes, as well as Ysgol Glan Cleddau for donating some delicious cakes.
