MILFORD Haven town council has agreed to work with the county council, to come up with a long-term plan for the Rath paddling pool.

On Monday, councillors heard from Jonathan Griffiths, the authority's director of social services and leisure, and Gary Nicholas, leisure services officer.

They were told that annual costs to run the free facility during the summer varied from £3,000 to £4,000, depending on how much it is used.

This, said several councillors, was much higher than the £1,000 figure quoted by the council when it looked to close the pool to save money earlier this year.

Mr Griffiths confirmed there were now no plans to shut the open air pool, but that a long-term solution was needed to keep it going.

Members agreed to set up a county council liaison group, chaired by the mayor, to see if the two councils could work together.

Members of the public, including Brian Phillips - who started a petition to save the pool - would also be invited to contribute.
