A MILFORD Haven couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a sing-song.

Fred and Sybil Cogger marked the occasion at the town’s Havenhurst Home, which Sybil attends five days a week.

The couple – both aged 87 - were presented with a bouquet of flowers by Pembrokeshire County Council chairman, Cllr Paul Harries.

Havenhurst arranged for local singer Peggy Angell to visit and lead a sing-a-long followed by afternoon tea.

Fred, who lives in Kent, joined the Army in 1949 and met Sybil when he was stationed at Llanion Barracks in Pembroke Dock. He used to drop off the army washing to Milford Laundry where she worked.

They were married on August 2, 1952, in North Road Baptist Chapel where Sybil was attended by two bridesmaids and two flower girls.

The reception was held in the Masonic Hall. Milford Haven, and the happy couple honeymooned in Cardiff, travelling by train.

They went onto have two children, Neil and Steven and now have three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In his younger days Fred was a keen sportsman, playing football, cricket and badminton while Sybil preferred knitting, baking and gardening.

Both enjoyed travelling abroad on holiday to Spain, Italy and Portugal.
