THE BAKE-off marquee made its way to Milford Haven Youth Centre last week, for a cook-off with a difference.

Milford Haven Youth Council hosted their first 'Great Council Bake Off' which saw youth and town council representatives work together in teams to compete for the coveted prize title of Bake Off Champions.

The project was the idea of Milford Haven Youth Council, who wanted to encourage more collaborative relationships between town councils and their youth counterparts.

Tasked with tasting the bakes, and choosing a champion were youth bank representative Bryani Kelly, Preseli-Pembrokeshire MP Stephen Crabb and Assembly Member Paul Davies.

The winners, with an excellent summer fruit Victoria sponge, were Jamie Bevan and Judith McNamara of Young Voices for Choices Youth Forum.

Said Mr Crabb: “It was a tough gig, but I just couldn't say no to the opportunity to help judge the Great Council Bake Off.

“All six entries were delicious and well done to all those who took part.

"It was great to speak to local young people and see them involved in a fun and friendly event and congratulations to Milford Haven Youth Council for organising the day.

"I look forward to this becoming an annual event in the youth council’s calendar.”

Added Mr Davies: “It was a real treat to be invited to the Milford Haven Youth Council’s Great Council Bake Off event.

"All of the entries were exceptional and I hope the bakers themselves enjoyed the day as much as we did."

Bethany Roberts, a member of Milford Haven Youth Council, said: "It has been fantastic to see the turn out from councils around the county.

"The youth council would also like to thank a number of people for their support including all those who attended, Big Brums for kindly donating carpet for the floor of the marquee, and our youth workers from Pembrokeshire Youth Service.”
