BBC presenter Nick Knowles has been named as an official ambassador for the Welsh bereavement charity, 2 Wish Upon A Star.

In his role as ambassador, Mr Knowles will support the charity by helping to promote the values and ethos of 2 Wish Upon A Star wherever possible, as well as attending some events and contributing to the growth of the charity.

The 54-year-old is best known for presenting DIY SOS, Who Dares Wins and most recently the BBC special ‘Mind over Marathon’, where he first met 2 Wish Upon A Star founder, Rhian Burke.

Rhian, from Neyland, said Nick’s support for the charity will help raise awareness of its work: “We are delighted that Nick has agreed to become an official ambassador for 2 Wish Upon A Star.

"As well as support the charity in general, one of the key roles our ambassadors play is to help raise awareness of the charity and of our cause.

“Since 2 Wish Upon A Star started almost five years ago, we have grown significantly, both in size and stature. We have made tremendous advancements in the level of bereavement support offered across Wales, working with every health board and police force across the country, meaning no-one in Wales who loses a child suddenly or unexpectedly should be left without immediate support.

“However, as a charity with limited resources, we rely heavily on our staff, volunteers and partner services to spread our message of hope, and that is especially true of our ambassadors.

“Nick was a tremendous help for me personally when I took part in BBC’s Mind Over Marathon and we have become genuine friends. When I asked him if he would support the charity officially, there was no hesitation, he said yes – which for someone as busy as Nick is, speaks volumes.”

Mr Knowles said: “I’m honoured to have been asked by Rhian to support the charity as an ambassador and was delighted to say yes. The work that the charity does to support families in Wales is tremendous and I feel privileged to be able to play a part in helping it grow. She’s also one of my favourite people, so saying yes was easy.”

2 Wish Upon A Star was established in 2012 by Rhian Burke after suffering the sudden loss of her son George and husband Paul. The charity aims to improve bereavement services across Wales to support families who have suffered the sudden loss of a child. The funds raised go towards helping those who are in need of immediate support.
