CARDIGAN was glowing with festive spirit on Friday as the town's Winter Giant Lantern Parade wove a magical spell on the town, bringing community and visitors together.

Small World Theatre energetically worked with lots of community groups and the general public to create beautiful lanterns of all shapes and sizes for this spectacular event.

The Parade was inspired by the legendary Tale of Taliesin and included many giant creatures and characters from the story.

These were accompanied by hundreds of pyramid lanterns along Cardigan's High Street and into Cardigan Castle where there was fire juggling, performances by Ysgol Gynradd Aberteifi and Blaenporth Male Voice Choir.

Crowds were then treated to a splendid fireworks display over the river Teifi with donations raised by Cardigan Traders.

"This event is a triumph," said Cllr Catrin Miles. "It brings the community together and is a boost to local business.

"It was great to see so many of Cardigan's shops, pubs and restaurants open late for Christmas shopping and to welcome the spectators. Congratulations to Small World Theatre for their hard work."

The Winter Giant Lantern Parade, made possible by a National Lottery awarded to Cymdeithas Aberteifi Society, is the highlight of Festive Fortnight in Cardigan.

This weekend sees the last of those events which include Cardigan Guildhall Street Food Christmas Market and Small World Theatre's Christmas Party starring YAMÄYA and DJ Maya Mitten on Friday 15 December.
