HOUSEHOLDS in Milford Haven will see their annual bill to the town council go up by £1.87 in April, following a meeting on Thursday night (December 11).

After three hours of deliberations, the council voted to put up its annual precept by 8.69 per cent, meaning those living in a Band D property will pay a total of £35 a year towards the running of local services.

The decision will see £10,000 taken from the council’s £100,000 reserves, with another £13,000 earmarked for improvements to the town cemetery.

Milford Haven Museum will be awarded £10,000 to help it meet rising rent costs, while the Torch Theatre will receive £12,000 – less than the £15,000 it asked for.

Milford Haven Town Band and Junior Band will benefit from £2,500 in the coming year, while the Pill Social Centre will be given £4,000 towards running costs.

Full details of the precept meeting will be in this week’s Mercury.
