NEYLAND’S library will be moved to the town’s new community hub following cabinet approval.

Once a suitable model is agreed between the council and Community Interest Company (CIC) the town will see its library rehomed and a likely increase in opening hours.

The library will remain included in the Access to Services consultation which is part of the county council transformation programme looking at what services could be moved in order to free up buildings and save money.

The proposal has been backed by Neyland Town Council and the move could save around £32,5000 according to officers.

Cllr Neil Prior said: “It’s a different way of delivering services.”

Having been rated a tier three town, the alternative options for services are mobile provision or no provision at all.

Cabinet also agreed a recommendation that: “That delegated authority be granted to the Director of Finance to make a final determination with regard to security and the operating model following completion of these discussions; and that the delegated authority be extended to matters relating to financing, which may include Council grant funding, the construction of the new library and ensuring financial efficiencies will be generated, i.e. matters relating to the library grant application, capital receipt and prudential borrowing terms.”
