FIVE amazing mums have stepped up, to help ensure playtime continues of an Milford Haven estate.

The public-spirited group got together when play sessions on The Mount - previously organised by Groundwork Wales - came to an end.

They volunteered to undergo play work training and obtained the necessary qualifications to arrange and supervise play events for the estate’s children and families

They were supported throughout by Pembrokeshire County Council’s housing customer liaison team and the authority’s play sufficiency officer, Damian Golden, along with representatives from the Friends of the Mount organisation.

The first of the play events offered by the recently qualified team took place last month and attracted 30 children to the new Mount Estate community centre

Activities included den building, fire lighting with marshmallow cooking and drawing with lots of play equipment available for free and imaginative play.

The play parents have also secured an All Wales Play Opportunity grant which has enabled them to purchase new team pink hoodies, t-shirts and numerous items of play equipment.

Damian was full of praise for The Mount mums - Linda Rose, Catrin Tattersall, Leeanna Povey, Sarah Howlin and Kimberley Phillips.

Speaking on behalf of himself and the customer liaison team, he said: “This is a very exciting time for play opportunities for the parents and their children living on the Mount Estate.

"These five amazing ladies have worked very hard in order to achieve this qualification.

“There is now no stopping them with their play ideas, plans and sheer drive to together continue offering this provision for themselves, the families and especially the children.

"They should be very proud of themselves, we certainly are.”

The training - delivered by Mark Holmes and Shaun Robertson of Groundwork Wales - was made possible with a Tesco ‘Bags of Help’ grant secured by the Customer Liaison team.

Now the mums are excitedly planning events for the Wednesday afternoons after the Easter holidays as well as for the long summer holidays.

After Easter, the sessions will be between 3.30pm and 5.30pm every Wednesday at the Mount Estate community centre.
