MORE than 170 new affordable homes will be built in Pembrokeshire over the next two years.

ateb, the housing association formerly known as Pembrokeshire Housing, has signed contracts on three new housing developments in Pembrokeshire that will see 172 new affordable homes built by 2020.

The new sites are located in Haverfordwest, Milford Haven and Johnston.

The developments were made possible through the involvement of the Welsh Government and Pembrokeshire County Council.

Pat Davies, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing was delighted to see the new developments start.

“Pembrokeshire has a significant need for more affordable homes, we have been working hard with our partners to support new opportunities to build new homes, these new ateb developments will be a welcome addition to our affordable housing options,” she said.

The new developments will receive nearly £13 million of grant from the Welsh Government that allows ateb to charge affordable rents.

The ateb projects will help the Welsh Government to meet its target of 20,000 new affordable homes across Wales.

ateb is also working with the Welsh Government to produce eco-friendly homes with Pembrokeshire based developer Ty Solar and is seeking to be one of the first housing associations in Wales to offer the new rent-to-own scheme.
