ANTIQUE wooden ware will be on display in Tenby this autumn.

The Mauchline Ware Collectors’ Club holds its annual convention at the Giltar Hotel between October 4 and 7 - the first time the club has held its convention in south Wales.

Most of the club’s meetings have been held in Scotland as that was where Mauchline ware was made during the 18th and 19th centuries, and into the early 20th century.

Mauchline ware is a type of treen – a name for small handmade functional household objects made of wood.

The items were popular, particularly in Victorian times.

They come in various finishes and were often bought as souvenirs when tourism started to develop due to the advent of the railways.

Many of the items carry scenes of seaside resorts, like Tenby; historic places like Haverfordwest and Milford Haven, and important buildings, like Pembroke Castle and St David’s Cathedral.

It appears that the souvenirs were so popular in St Davids that there were two stockists there.

So far stockists in other towns in Pembrokeshire have yet to be identified, though many Mauchline ware items were sold there.

The convention is being organised by Erene Grieve from Milford Haven, a member of the club, who would like to hear from other people who have examples of Mauchline ware particularly from the Pembrokeshire area.

Also anyone who might be interested in attending the convention where there will be a wide range of Mauchlineware items on display.
