BOXING legend Frank Bruno was guest of honour for a red carpet event in Milford Haven on Saturday (April 21).

The former WBC heavyweight title winner was joined by ex-Wales international Rupert Moon for Milford Haven Round Table and Ladies' Circle handover dinner.

Outgoing chairman Mark Johnson said: "The last two years of being chairman have been a wonderful experience, both for learning and for meeting a lot of people that I wouldn’t normally have.

"Being able to continue the Round Table in Milford, which has been running for several generations has also been a pleasure and I hope that the children and families of the town remember our carnivals for many years to come.

"We are a group that is growing in strength and numbers and it has been great to see our members enjoying being involved and I have no doubt that the coming years many many more memories will be created."

New chairman Martin Wilcox said: "I am very proud to take on the chairman role of this fantastic group of local guys once again.

"We are all volunteers and have a great team who try really hard to put on some memorable events for the people of the town, raising some money for local good causes and having a lot of fun along the way."

Handing over the chains to new president Mark Khan, outgoing president Rob Dorey said the dinner - held at the Lord Nelson - had continued the sense of fun and fellowship he had enjoyed in the role.

Mr Khan said he was "extremely proud" to take on the role for the next two years, and appealed to men aged between 18 and 45 who feel they would like to be part of something very special in our town to join.

Having completed their first year since re-forming, Milford Haven Ladies Circle Chairman Bronwyn Evans-Robertson also handed over her chains to Gabrielle Swales.

Mrs Evans-Robertson said it had been an amazing 12 months for the new group.

"This past year has seen the group focus on fundraising and re-establish a presence within the local community.

"Of the funds raised, a massive 77 per cent has been donated to some fantastic local charities.

"We have benefited greatly from the support and guidance of the Round Table, and would like to thank the community and its businesses for all its support.”

Proceeds from the evening, which also featured music from Ged Duffy, go towards the costs of running the annual town carnival.

Top prize for best carnival entry is an incredible £1,000 this year, with floats, walking groups, and out-of-town groups also welcome.
