SIX 'super citizens' are to receive awards from Milford Haven Town Council.

Every year the council celebrates the achievements, dedication and community spirit of local people with an awards ceremony at the town hall.

Among those due to receive this year's adult awards are Milford United Football Club stalwart Andrew Burgoyne.

The 56-year-old has had a lifetime of involvement with the club, and is described as a 'tremendous ambassador' for grass roots and youth sports.

Michael Lawlor manages Greenacres Animal Rescue Centre near Talbenny, which has helped more than 8,000 over the last decade.

A 'workaholic' who always does his best to help the animals in his care, his nominator said the ever-humble Michael would no doubt share the accolade with his loyal team of volunteers.

Milford Haven Town Band's Martyn Llewellyn will also receive an award for his dedication and determination as band leader.

"Martyn always shows complete commitment to the band and is always looking for ways to improve and enthuse those around him," read his nomination papers.

David Woodham, aged 42, has been a volunteer with the Torch Theatre for 20 years, and has spent 35 years as an alter server at St Katharine and St Peter's Church.

A regular at civic events such as Remembrance Sunday and Anzac Day, David carries the cross and supports proceedings.

He is also an active member of St Katharine's Stratford Players theatre group.

Youth awards will go to Leading Cadets Jago Clarke and Duncan Parry, both of whom are members of Milford Haven Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets.

Jago joined the unit aged 11, and has quickly risen through the ranks, also being named Mayor's Cadet for the coming year.

Duncan became a cadet aged 13, and has gained qualifications in first aid, marine engineering, navigation and rowing among others.

Posthumous awards will also go to Ruth Bryant and Claire Etherington.

Both were volunteers with St John Ambulance, and provided first aid cover at a number of events, as well as helping train both adults and children.

The ceremony is to take place at the town hall on Friday, June 8.
