A drunk and disorderly Neyland man complimented a police officer on his tackling technique after being taken to the ground, a court has heard.

Luc Grice, of College Park, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, May 29,

Abul Hussain, prosecuting, told the court that police responded to a report of a disturbance in Neyland’s High Street at around midnight on May 13.

An officer gave chase when a man was spotted running away, and came across Grice who started shouting and swearing before running towards him.

Mr Hussain said: “The officer thought he was running at him. He tackled him to the ground.”

Grice continued to make abusive comments and swear, stating: “I was going to knock you over, but that was a good tackle.”

Grice, 28, who represented himself, told the court that he was among 40 to 50 people who attended a street party on the night in question.

He said: “I left and was arrested. I’m sorry for causing trouble.”

Magistrates fined Grice £116 and ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £30 surcharge.
