FAST food fans could be in for a new treat, if the Port of Milford Haven’s latest plans are approved.

The Port has applied for planning permission to convert one of its Havens Head retail park sites into a drive-through restaurant.

Proposals for the building, which currently houses the Paul Sartori Foundation charity shop, include an internal seating area, serving counter, staff and customer toilets, kitchen and store, plus external pay and pick-up windows and outside seating.

Landscaping and parking spaces for 34 cars are also included in the plans, drawn up by Pembroke Design Ltd.

But those licking their lips in anticipation will have to wait to find out who will occupy the site, if approved.

Both McDonald’s and KFC have said they have no plans to open a branch in Milford Haven.

On its website, KFC states its local 'target locations' as Pembroke and Haverfordwest.

Port development director Neil Jenkins has said the trust does not comment on its commercial discussions.

He said work was well underway at the site of the nearby Costa Coffee drive-thru, adding the Port’s overall masterplan was “based on creating space for a mixture of national brand operators” as well as a “vibrant independent operator-led range of spaces”.

The Port paid £15.3million to take over the leasehold of Havens Head Retail Park last year - a purchase expected to add around £1million a year to its operating profit.

In April, it announced a new direction for its £70million 'masterplan', which is predicted to create around 600 jobs.

You can comment on the plans by searching for 18/0123/PA on the county council website, and responding before June 6.
