A MILFORD Haven residential home marked 50 years of caring with a summer garden party recently.

Havenhurst opened its doors five decades ago, and flourished under the management of matron Phyllis Williams.

A friends committee was started by Rev Alan Morgan, and still exists today, providing regular singalongs, support and entertainment for users.

Some years later the function of the home changed, and a large day centre and assessment unit were opened.

The day centre also celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

Said friends of Havenhurst organiser Joyce Navas: “I wish to thank all friends past and presents for their dedicated support over the years.

“A big thank you must go to Peter Griffiths, pianist, for his unstinting support.

Also, I would like to thank all the clergy who have very kindly conducted all the services and all others who have contributed.

“Havenhurst has always maintained a very high standard of care and all the staff are always kinds and courteous and the credit for this must go to Teri-Jane John and Julie Jones.”

Thanks also went to Brian and Elizabeth Taylor of Pembrokeshire Building and Plumbing Supplies, and Valero.

Attending the garden party were Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council Cllr Aden Brinn and consort Rose Blackburn, deputy mayor of Milford Haven Cllr Terry Davies, day centre manager Sara Colwill and Director of Social Services Jonathan Griffiths.
