Drugs were found in a Milford Haven woman’s handbag during a routine police stop.

Elaine Marie Nicholas, of Chestnut Way, Mount Estate, pleaded guilty to Class B drug possession when she appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates o Tuesday, July 31.

Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting, said police could smell cannabis when they stopped Nicholas’ vehicle as part of a routine check in Milford Haven on July 15.

“Her handbag was searched and a purse was found to contain a small snap-bag with 0.6g of cannabis.”

Nicholas admitted the drugs were hers when interviewed, and told officers they were for her personal use.

The court heard that she had previous convictions for similar offences.

Rebecca Carter, defending, told the bench that Nicholas, 36, had been using the drug to self-medicate for physical and mental health conditions.

She added: “She is very sorry.”

Magistrates imposed a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered her to pay £85 costs and a £20 surcharge.

A destruction order was made for the seized drugs.
