FORMER British heavyweight champion boxer Scott the Hammer' Gammer is a step closer to regaining his belt as a date for a title eliminator has been set.
The 31-year-old father-of-four will face John McDermott (pictured right), aged 27, of Horndon, on September 29, at the Arena in Sheffield.
The winner will be among the top contenders to challenge Williams for the title.
This ten-round bout will be on the undercard of the Clinton Woods light heavyweight world title defence.
Scott told the Merc: "I am completely focused and confident I will win. I have been working harder than ever to prove myself after losing to Danny Williams, I just can't wait to get back in the ring."
The Pembroke Dock fighter lost his title to an impressive Danny Williams earlier this year after nine closely fought rounds.
Scott's dad and coach Ralph said: "We have adjusted our training so we will not be concentrating so much on fighting on the outside and moving but fighting more on the inside and landing more punches.
"I think in some ways losing to Danny Williams may have been good for Scott as he has really lifted his game."
To get tickets for the fight contact Scott's manager Paul Boyce on 01639 821110.
