ONE of the councillors who voted for the £100m marina at Pembroke Dock last week said a person would have to be an 'idiot' to oppose the project.
Pembroke Dock county councillor, Brian Hall, said: "It has taken five years to get here and it is going to regenerate the whole town.
"Through the 106 agreement, the developer will be putting money into roads, the water system, libraries and schools.
The Section 106 agreement - worth £1.7m - is a deal reached between the developer and the local authority to improve local amenities as part of the overall construction project.
"Only an idiot would object to this, they could only be termed an idiot," said Cllr Hall.
His comments came as his fellow Pembroke Dock councillor Kate Becton announced she was hoping to set up a new group to ensure the town gets the best deal out of the development, which was unanimously granted conditional outline approval.
The huge marina is going to be built in cllr Kate Becton's ward.
She said: "The PR could have been far better.
"This is massive development that is going to impact on everyone who lives here, it has to.
"I think most people are for it because of the regeneration it will bring, but I think the developer should make local people feel part of it."
Pembroke Dock councillor, Sue Perkins, said she also had concerns and would like to arrange a series of regular meetings so the public are kept up to date.
She said: "There is a lot of unease as people don't know what's going on.
"Many people are coming to me with their fears about traffic flow in London Road, wildlife, dust and disturbance caused by the work."
