Police have condemned a spate of criminal damage at a community woodland as an act of mindless vandalism'.

Officially opened just a few weeks ago, Holyland woodland walk in Pembroke Dock became the target for vandals last week.

Information notices, trees, bird boxes, seating and fence posts have all been damaged in the spate of vandalism.

A spokesman for Pembroke Dock police said: "We know this is a very popular walk with the community and we are asking for help to try and identify these people carrying out this mindless vandalism."

The woodland walk was created for the community after three years of work carried out by the Pembroke 21C Community Association. The work included installing a boardwalk, seating area, information notices and bird boxes.

Trustee of Pembroke 21C, John Hayes, said: "We are obviously very concerned about the damage that has been caused.

"The team involved with the project has worked hard to create a safe, accessible area where people can go to relax and enjoy the resident wildlife."

The police are urging anyone who uses the woodland to be vigilant and report any unusual activities.

Mr Hayes added: "Holyland Wood is an area for everyone to benefit from and so this spate of damage has affected all of the people that use the site."

Anyone with any information can contact Pembroke Dock police station on 0845 3302000.
