Children benefit from a really NIFTY event

Pembroke Dock youth centre played host to the third annual NIFTY event last week.

The event was attended by almost 250 children from the Pembroke family of schools and was arranged by Pembrokeshire youth children and action groups.

Its purpose is to help children with the transitional period between primary and secondary school.

Held over four days, children had access to skilled workshops and information stands.

Also present were year seven pupils from Pembroke comprehensive school, who fielded questions and offered advice to those with queries about making the step up.

Cabinet member for children Councillor Huw George was full of praise for the event.

He said: "A lot of good work has been done and it clearly made a difference to the young people.

"Policy was turned into practice with wonderful results," he added.
