Classical extravaganza in store for music lovers

Milford Haven’s seventh Music Festival opens with a string workshop on Friday, September 5, followed on Saturday by the Chamber Ensemble of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, performing in Milford Haven for the first time.

The players are drawn from the cream of musical talent, producing a richness of sound and virtuosity recognised worldwide.

International pianist Hamish Milne will be the soloist for Schubert’s Trout Quintet, promising a rare music treat.

Breakfast with Beethoven at 8am and 9am on Tuesday, September 9, will be held at the Starboard Hotel, while on Thursday September 11 a concert featuring Harps in Unison takes place at Tabernacle Church, when the harpists will be joined by Rebecca Griffiths (flute) who recently won the Rotary Young Musician of the Year award.

With a performance of Handel’s Messiah, the 18th Annual Concert in aid of Help the Hospices will give the Festival a grand climax at St Katharine’s Church on Saturday, September 13 when John S. Davies will conduct the John S. Davies Singers and the Westward Chamber Orchestra. The soloists will include Natalya Romaniw, who won this year’s Welsh Singers Competition, taking her to next year’s BBC Cardiff Singer of the World. She will be joined by Sally Martin, Malcolm Bennett and Robert Davies.
