A Pembroke Dock couple are taking on the ultimate driving challenge, travelling 2,500 miles across Europe in seven days, all in aid of charity.

Keen motorcyclists Jane and Bernard Evans are swapping two wheels for four to take part in the LandyRally, which will set off from Calais on Saturday, September 13.

The couple will travel through Andorra, Italy, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium and back into France.

Bernard has spent months working on the Range Rover for the journey, and completed his project on Monday.

Along the way the Range Rover will be put to the test when it is driven along incredible winding mountain roads, down pistes usually used for skiing and completing a range of daily tasks to gain extra points.

Jane said: “We’re used to travelling by two wheels rather than four but I’ll feel a lot safer on this route in our Range Rover, especially after all the preparation that Bernard has put in.”

The national children’s charity Jeans for Genes, which supports research and raises money for the care of children with genetic disorders, is one of two charities the couple hopes to collect funds for.

A respiratory nurse at Withybush Hospital, Jane Evans added: “Every day I see the effects that genetic disorders can have on children and adults.

“That’s why we wanted to support Jeans for Genes and we want to raise hundreds of pounds, if not more.”

A local diabetes charity will also benefit from the couple’s trek, a charity close to Bernard’s heart, as he is diabetic.

This the first time the couple have taken part in the Landyrally.
