A £4m development to build a mental health hospital in Pembroke Dock is bringing 80 new jobs to the area, the Mercury can reveal.
The 16-bed independent hospital will be operated by Welsh healthcare company Surehaven Ltd and will be located adjacent to South Pembrokeshire Hospital at Fort Road.
The facility will provide care for people aged 18 to 65 who might be liable to be detained under the Mental Health Act 2007.
The development will also include an eight-bedded building for people with learning disabilities.
Surehaven managing director Keith Woodall said the company hoped to work closely with the local health board and clinicians to provide the best possible care for patients in the county.
Mr Woodall said: “We aim to provide local services for local people with learning disabilities and mental health problems.
“A number of people currently receive their care many miles away from their home, their families and friends.”
As well as large individual bedrooms with full en-suite facilities, the hospital will have activity areas and quiet rooms.
“We are very proud of this facility and we will be inviting the people of Pembrokeshire to our open days to see for themselves what we have achieved here,” he added.
The company confirmed it is currently working with the Pembroke Dock job centre recruiting local people to fill the job vacancies at both units on the site.
The development is well underway and it is envisaged the service will be up and running as early as January next year.
