New recruits on festive beat

A group of new PCSOs will be hitting the streets across the county this Christmas.

The new recruits are currently completing their training and are expected to be patrolling the streets in time for the festive period.

New PCSO roles have been created in the neighbourhood policing teams in Haverfordwest rural, Milford Haven rural, Pembroke Dock and Tenby.

St Davids and Crymych will now also have their own dedicated PCSOs after previously sharing one across the two areas.

Chief Superintendent Dean Richards said: “As a direct result of the public telling us they want to see more patrols in their local areas, we have listened and invested a large part of our divisional and community safety partnership budget from the Welsh Assembly in providing new PCSOs for our neighbourhood policing teams.”

The new PCSOs include Laura Galdo, who is an extra PCSO for the Haverfordwest rural team, and has given up running her own business to join Dyfed-Powys Police.

Laura said: “From a very young age I have always wanted a career with Dyfed-Powys Police and wanted to make a difference to the community.”

Jade Miller is an extra PCSO for the Milford Haven rural team, and she has studied police sciences and has been a special constable with south Wales police for 18 months.

There will also be a dedicated PCSO in Crymych, with Welsh-speaking Ben Cole taking up the post and fulfilling a lifelong ambition by joining the police.

A vacancy in the Haverfordwest team will be taken up by Emma Roberts, who will be filling the role created by the transfer of PCSO Kelly Early to St Davids.

Emma was brought up in Pembrokeshire and is looking forward to help solve problems in the local area.

Emma Thomas fills an extra post for the Pembroke Dock team, and Emma had recently been working as traffic warden in the town.

“I am looking forward to getting to know the community and making a difference,” she said.

Jim Moffatt will fill the vacancy in the Pembroke Dock team and PCSO Mandy Goodland will be moving from Crymych and St Davids to Tenby.

“PCSOs carry out a vital role engaging with our communities and working with them to solve issues that the community identify as being important to their area,” added Chief Superintendent Richards.
