A Pembroke Dock woman is helping to ensure nothing goes to waste in the county.
Elaine Wetherall is co-owner of the Pembrokeshire branch of Freecycle, a national charity which invites people to post details of unwanted items they want to give away on the internet.
A recent surge in numbers has seen the branch’s members exceed 2500 and the group is currently saving almost eight metric tonnes of goods each month.
“There’s still too much stuff being dumped in the county’s landfill sites” said Elaine, who voluntarily runs the branch with Steve Stupple, from Kilgetty.
“We all have things we don’t want any more but think someone else would like them, but we don’t know who they are and how to go about it.”
Elaine added that the Pembrokeshire group has also enabled almost 100 pets to be relocated since June.
“The group allows members to offer animals for free to a good home if, through no fault of their own, they can no longer afford to keep their pet,” she said.
“It’s about giving and receiving and it really boosts a community. Giving to your neighbours is a lovely feeling.”
Anyone wishing to know more about the group should visit www.freecycle.org.
