A grand concert in memory of an ‘inspirational’ man has raised thousands of pounds for ward ten at Withybush Hospital.
Rebecca Jones, from Haverfordwest, embarked on the idea of organising a concert in memory of her uncle, Colin McGlave, who died in November 2007.
The 26-year-old wanted to raise money for ward ten where Colin, who had Down syndrome, had received ‘excellent’ palliative care, as well as organising an evening of music, which was one of the 57-year-old’s great passions.
With the help of Joyce Wonnacott the pair put together an impressive line-up of musical talent, which included Haverfordwest male voice choir, the Haverfordwest ladies choir, Goodwick Brass band, a performance from Starstruck Academy dancers and solo vocalist performances including one from Rebecca.
A grand raffle was also drawn on the evening, which was held at the Withybush Pavilion earlier this month.
Rebecca said that without the support of local businesses and donations the event would not have been possible. The support included an Ospreys and Wales rugby ball and shirts that were auctioned on the concert night.
The event, sponsored by Chevron, raised a grand total of £3720 to be split between the maternity and cancer services on ward ten.
Barclays Bank further donated £1500 as part of the pound for pound fundraising for communities initiative, £750 to each service on ward ten making a grand total in excess of £5000.
Rebecca added: “It was fantastic, I didn’t expect to raise that much money.”
