MOVES to expand two-bedroomed council properties into three-bedroomed accommodation look likely to be turned down.
A shortage of larger family houses prompted county councillor Malcolm Calver to lodge a notice of motion calling for existing council properties to be expanded.
The notice is due to be heard by cabinet members on Monday.
Cllr Calver said he knew of parents sleeping on settees once children had reached an age where they needed a room of their own.
He said his motion “would be a cost-effective method of giving existing tenants and their families the opportunity to remain in their local communities.”
But council officers say the authority is already committed to meeting Assembly targets and has a 30-year business plan in place. Cabinet is recommended not to adopt the notice.
