A Pembroke Dock man bought a torch/taser gun device for the protection of his mother, Haverfordwest magistrates were told recently.
Paul Thomas, 33, of 106 Bush Street, was arrested for possession of the adapted weapon under the Firearms Act 1968, after police executed a search warrant on March 9.
Ellie Morgan, prosecuting, told the court that Thomas walked straight into his kitchen and produced the object in question.
She added: “When he showed the device to officers he said: ‘I’ll show you how it works because if you shock yourself with this, you’ll know about it’.”
“When asked if he would describe it as a stun gun, he replied: ‘More of a zappy thing’,” said Ms Morgan.
Thomas was given a conditional discharge of 12 months and ordered to pay costs. Magistrates also ordered the destruction of the taser device.
