Sandy Buttle – known to generations of young people in Pembroke Dock as Skip – died in February this year, but a new memorial will guarantee he won’t be forgotten.
As a long-time leader at Pembroke Dock youth centre, he was an inspiring figure to young people, committed to helping others and sharing his considerable knowledge.
This was especially the case with scout and canoeing clubs both far and wide.
Community youth worker, Matt Done, said: “I was lucky enough to have known Skip for a short time.
“He always amazed me with his enthusiasm and commitment. In short, he was a great character.”
After Skip’s death, Matt decided to erect a plaque at the centre in his memory.
He also commissioned a portrait sprayed on the wall by Cardiff artist Lloyd Roberts, who had held graffiti workshops at the centre in the past.
The result is an astonishing likeness of Sandy Skip Buttle.
“Everyone who has seen the portrait has been blown away by it,” said Matt.
“I feel he’s never left us, just watching over everyone.”
