A Milford Haven man voluntarily told police he had drugs in his house after they spot-checked his car, Haverfordwest magistrates court heard on Tuesday.
David Lewis, of 61 Blue Anchor Way, Dale, was stopped on November 5 as he was driving through Slebech. On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to possessing 3.9 grams of cannabis.
Prosecutor Ellie Morgan said: “His vehicle was searched and upon being questioned, he volunteered to police he had cannabis at his home address.”
Officers went to his house and seized the substance from his living room and kitchen.
“He said it was for back problems and that he used it for pain relief.”
Ms Morgan added that Lewis, aged 41, had two previous drugs convictions.
Defence lawyer Gareth Lewis handed in a letter from his client’s neighbour which described him as a “reliable character”, and also medical evidence of his back problems.
Lewis was “very sorry” and deserved credit for co-operating with police, he added.
The presiding magistrate said that although the bench sympathised with the defendant’s medical problems, cannabis was still an illegal substance.
Lewis was ordered to pay £285 in fines and costs.
