The Milford Haven waterway recently played host to a group of young people from inner city London, as Milford Haven Port Authority forges a partnership with children’s charity CCHF — All About Kids.
The action-packed week allowed children from disadvantaged backgrounds to enjoy the fun and diversity of the haven.
The charity is based in Sussex and this trip to Pembrokeshire was its first to Wales.
The port authority’s sponsorship allowed about 25 children aged between seven and 12 to try their hand at raft building, rock climbing, abseiling and canoeing. The activities were led by the Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre at Llanion.
During their stay, the children were also hosted by Irish Ferries and were taken on a guided tour of the Isle of Innishmore vessel.
The port authority has announced plans to extend the partnership with the charity next year, with two camps being hosted at the Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre.
A spokesman for CCHF said: “The children and youth worker volunteers said they gained so much confidence from being in the amazing surroundings.
“The Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre staff were brilliant. Thank you to Milford Haven Port Authority for enabling us to expand our operations into west Wales.”
