Lime Kiln restoration

A Sandy Haven lime kiln has been restored to its former glory thanks to the combined efforts of the local community and Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority voluntary wardens.

The lime kiln was last restored in the late 1980s and has been lost behind vegetation for several years.

The project ran for six weeks under the supervision of local ranger Haydn Garlick. He said: “This is a unique site with the lime kiln, lime burner’s hut and weighbridge all remaining in good condition in this one location.

“The work involved removing massive amounts of bramble, ivy and saplings, as well as laying gravel and installing wooden posts. It is also hoped that interpretation panels will be set up on the site.

“This was a good opportunity for the local community and national park voluntary wardens to work together, helping to reveal a previously hidden historical feature.”
