A Milford Haven group is urgently seeking funding and new members as they celebrate a special milestone this year.

Members of the Milford Haven Twinning Association gave a presentation to town councillors on Monday to highlight their plight.

The group has seen a dramatic decline in numbers in recent years with only six members now remaining on its committee.

The town is twinned with Romilly-Sur-Seine in France and Uman in the Ukraine and celebrates the 50th anniversary of its association with the French town this year.

Despite having a number of hosting families in the town, the group is desperate to recruit more to avoid having to finance hotel accommodation for the next planned visit in November.

Chairman Dorothy Walters has been a member of the association since the 1970s.

She said: “It is very rewarding and we have made some wonderful friends.

“As well as learning about a new culture, people don’t realise how many friends they can make along the way.

“We really need more families to host and more funding.”

Milford Haven town council provides an annual grant to the group of £675, however, the mayor, councillor Tony Eden, said the council would consider an appeal for further funding.

“The members are very enthusiastic and as a council we will do all we can to help them,” he said.

“It would be very sad to lose this all together and it would be good to see enough interest from townsfolk to host.”
